Rehabilitation Training
Our Specialist Rehabilitation service offers tailored one-to-one training—at home, in the community or at our Hub—to help people with visual impairment regain independence. It covers essential daily tasks (such as cooking and household chores), confidence-building mobility training (like using canes, independent travel, public transport, route planning, and road safety), and advice on assistive equipment and technology to support independent living.
There are no fees for this training. Please complete the ‘make a referral form’ if you are interested in rehabilitation training.
Accessible Technology
Seescape are able to offer comprehensive training in accessible technology from our highly experienced Head of Accessible Technology, Stuart Beveridge.
Combining lived experience and a wealth of expertise, Stuart uses a vast array of different technologies in his personal and working life to maintain his independence, and is constantly assessing innovations in the technology sector.
Stuart’s main role is to provide assessments, training, support and demonstrations to clients who, like himself, have no/limited vision, or would like to be more independent in their everyday lives using different technology solutions. Stuart can also provide training, support, advice and demonstrations to anyone with an interest in accessible technology in the following areas:

Mainstream Tech:
- iPhone/iPad/AppleTV: VoiceOver screen-reader and Voice Control and dictation using Siri. Useful for phonecalls, text messages, accessing online banking and web browsing.
- Android (Samsung and Google phones and tablets): TalkBack Screen-reader, Google Assistant etc.
- Amazon Fire Tablets and Fire TV: VoiceView Screen-Reader and Voice Control using Alexa remote.
- Smart Speakers: Amazon Echo, Google Home and HomePod. Useful for creating shopping lists, keeping track of appointments, and controlling heating and lighting.
- Smart Home devices: g. Hive and robot vacuum cleaner.
- Accessibility built-in to TVs (if available on the device: Enabling TalkBack or Voice Guidance screen-reader.
- SkyQ: Voice Guidance Accessibility Feature and Voice Control.
- Audio headsets: Bose Audio Sunglasses, Trekz Titanium Aftershockz Headphones, Apple AirPods etc.
Specialist Technology:
- Screen-Readers for computers: Narrator, NVDA and JAWS for Windows and VoiceOver for Mac or ChromeVox for Chromebooks.
- Specialist phones: Tactile phones such as BlindShell Classic, Smart Vision and Mini Vision. Touch Screen phones such as Synapptic and voice controlled phones such as In Your Pocket.
- Navigation and obstacle detection devices: Victor Reader Trek, Sunu Band, Ultracane, WeWALK Smart Cane and naviBelt.
- Smart Glasses: Envision Glasses and OrCam. Useful for allowing users to read their own mail independently, recognise people’s faces and describe their surroundings
- Braille: Note takers and stand-alone braille displays.
- Stand-alone Text-to-speech devices (for reading printed text): Hark Reader, Clear Reader etc.
- Specialist Dictaphones: Victor Reader Stream/Trek, Olympus DM770 etc.
Accessible Apps which increase independence:
- Apps for reading, facial recognition, describing what’s around you, barcode recognition, colour recognition etc: SeeingAI, TapTapSee and EnvisionAI.
- Outdoor navigation: BlindSquare and Soundscape.
- Indoor navigation: Clew App.
- Apps for planning journeys using public transport or booking sighted assistance for train journeys: UK Bus Checker and Passenger Assistance.
- Aira and BeMyEyes: Apps where you can ask trained personnel or volunteers for sighted assistance if you are really struggling with any sort of task.
- Audiobook Apps: Audible App and RNIB Reading services through the EasyReader and Alexa Apps.
- Online shopping.
Training format & fees
Training can be personalised to suit your individual needs and delivered at either our Hub in Glenrothes or your workplace. Depending on your training needs, we may also be able to deliver certain sessions via Zoom/Team.
£300 for a half-day session
£500 for a full-day session
If delivered outwith our Hub, there will also be a fee to cover our travel expenses.

Sighted Guide Training
Seescape’s Sighted Guide training equips individuals with the practical skills and confidence to safely and respectfully assist people who are visually impaired. Delivered by specialist rehabilitation staff, the training covers essential techniques such as guiding through narrow spaces, navigating steps and public transport, managing pace and positioning, and ensuring effective communication. Sessions are tailored for unpaid carers, volunteers, and professionals, and can be delivered one-to-one or in small groups across Fife. Participants gain hands-on experience and receive a certificate upon completion, helping to foster inclusion and independence for those with visual impairments.

Visual Awareness Training
Seescape’s Visual Awareness Training is designed to help organisations and individuals better understand the challenges faced by people with visual impairments and how to interact with them respectfully and effectively. Delivered by experienced rehabilitation specialists, the course includes practical demonstrations using simulation glasses, interactive activities, and guidance on communication and environmental awareness. It can be delivered as a standalone session or combined with Sighted Guide Training, and is tailored to suit groups of up to 15 participants. Training can be held at Seescape’s hub in Glenrothes or at external venues, and includes all necessary materials, refreshments, and access to assistive tools.
