Long-standing Fife Visual Impairment charity Seescape (formerly known as Fife Society for the Blind) has recently received a very welcome funding award from The National Lottery Community Fund, made possible by National Lottery players.

The funding will allow Seescape to install voice-controlled smart devices, create a sensory garden, install tactile and braille signage and upgrade the IT to be able to provide virtual workshops, demonstrations and meetings.

With regular drop ins, events, social groups and training sessions taking place in the Visual Impairment (VI) Hub in Glenrothes, these adaptations will be heavily used and give the Seescape clients the support they need to stay connected to their community and their peers and tackle the isolation and poor mental health that often comes with deteriorating eyesight.

Seescape’s CEO Lesley Carcary, said: ‘We are over the moon to receive this funding, and we’d like to sincerely thank the National Lottery Community Fund for their ongoing support. This award will allow us to improve our Visual Impairment Hub even further, to create a welcoming, friendly, accessible, functional and easy to navigate space for our clients, their families and supporters.”

The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland Chair, Kate Still, said: “This project, delivered by Seescape, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others.  It’s all thanks to National Lottery players that we can help give charities and community groups throughout Scotland greater certainty during challenging times.”
