We achieved this accolade for the way our team involves, manages and supports volunteers, following the five strands of the Volunteer Friendly Award standards.
The Volunteer Friendly Award is given for excellent volunteer management practice and seescape provided evidence that it manages tis volunteers effectively, treats them fairly, trains and supports them in their roles, offers them the opportunity for personal development and celebrates the contribution they make to the organisation.
Kirstie, our Community Engagement Coordinator said this after receiving the award:
“Volunteers are an integral part of seescape, without them we simply couldn’t reach as many clients as we do. Sight loss can be an isolating experience, which is why our community engagement programme, exists, to make sure clients have social opportunities to mix with other people, receive peer support, (e.g., via one of our social groups), or just have a good chat on the telephone with one of our trained telephone volunteer befrienders. By offering their time, volunteers get satisfaction from making a real different to the lives of others, whilst receiving support and training in their role.”
Carl Hodson, had this to say about achieving this fantastic accolade:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised with this award, it shows the commitment of our team to deliver the best possible services for our clients. There are lots of benefits to having the Volunteer Friendly Award, to both the organisation and its volunteers. Volunteers will have confidence that they are being looked after well and treated as an equal member of the organisation and will be recognised for the contribution they make. With a nationally recognised quality standard in volunteer management the organisation can show funding bodies that good volunteer management practices are in place.”
