Seescape’s Head of Accessible Technology, Stuart Beveridge, was featured this week on STV News for his work in supporting the Scottish Tech Army to bring back the discontinued Microsoft Soundscape app. Soundscape, which used audio cues to help visually impaired users better understand their surroundings, was retired by Microsoft in August after 7 years.

Stuart has been collaborating with the Scottish Tech Army, a group of volunteers who use their techonological skills for good causes, to reproduce key features of Soundscape. For many visually impaired people, Soundscape was a vital tool that gave them greater confidence and independence in navigating the world.

The STV News segment highlighted how Stuart and the Tech Army were able to leverage their expertise to rebuild aspects of Soundscape in just a few short weeks. Seescape, where Stuart serves as Head of Accessible Technology, is proud of this collaborative effort to bring back such an empowering resource for the visually impaired community. Stuart’s pioneering work exemplifies Seescape’s commitment to using technology to increase inclusion and accessibility.
